The past few months have been tough. But like a plant that persists to eventually grow through the pavement, I have chosen to push on and live life each day to the fullest. In my journey, I am so lucky to be accompanied by my soulmate, a fantastic person who makes all the love clichés in the world come to life for me. But before I get completely sidetracked, I want to share a beautiful, romantic spot I discovered recently on my journey.
OI Donyo Orok camp in Namanga is a hidden camping ground off the Namanga highway. It’s a secluded site that comes with tented accommodation, hot water and a pool that is open 24 hours a day. The few select staff are so friendly that when the time came to leave, we were on a first name basis with them all. You can tell the owner has put his heart into the business with the personal touch for each individual guest, such as outfitting our 4-poster bed with fairy lights before we arrived. Our bathroom, which came complete with a bath, brought the outdoors in while the spotless floors made you forget that you were in a tent. When it came to meal times, the selection of food on offer was outstanding with deserts being particularly delicious. But the real show stopper was an old ‘combi’ van that has been converted into a fully functional bar and sits by the pool. A very quaint and unforgettable addition to this magical place.
During our time at the campground, we were one of only 3 couples staying there. This gave us so much freedom and allowed us to fully enjoy the spectacular surroundings. The nearby winding roads are perfect for hiking and cycling while the camp also organizes day trips to the mountain of the same name, which I remember correctly is loosely translated to mean ‘the black mountain’. On the flipside, if you want to do nothing more than simply kick back and relax, the rugged terrain acts as the perfect romantic retreat.
After our quality time enjoying this hidden gem, I felt calm, loved and stronger on the way back home. I also felt hopeful and ready for whatever the next few months would bring. But don’t listen to me, I am just a hopeless romantic who has refused to give up on her daydreams. Go see it for yourself!
